Supporting
our Community

2023, nov.jpg

This Wellness Program helps residents of Alamogordo and Otero County, NM

meet more shared human/canine needs in healthy and sustainable ways. We provide free, ongoing education in partnership with Otero Animal Control. Adopters of shelter dogs, individuals and families considering adoption of a shelter dog, and current pet dog owners (whether or not they adopted) will all find helpful resources here.

Goals

1. Provide effective and ethical instruction on the care and training of dogs throughout their life stages.

2. Facilitate successful adoptions by:

  • helping shelter dogs integrate successfully into home environments

  • teaching adopters how to address canine needs in mutually beneficial ways

3. Reduce returns and surrenders of dogs by:

  • teaching a practical in-home structure that facilitates healthy relationship and low-stress living

  • preventing and treating problematic behaviors by teaching a practical foundational skillset and supporting community members in implementing this skillset
