Adopters of shelter dogs, individuals and families considering a dog, and current dog owners (whether or not they adopted) will find helpful resources here.



Canine Conversations
Join us Saturday mornings
at 9:30 am for a cup of coffee
and a chat.
Bring your dog training questions, not your dog. There is one case study or teaching topic per session, then Q & A. Dates are added continuously.

Doors open at 9:20 am.
Reservation by email is recommended but not required. If we fill, priority will be given to recent shelter dog adopters.

Get one month FREE of the course below!
OPTION 1. If you adopted from an Alamogordo shelter, email us your name, a short description of your dog, and the adoption month/year.
OPTION 2. If you adopted or rescued a senior dog from ANYWHERE, email us a picture of your dog and a brief description of him/her.
The course is available to others for monthly subscription. Subscription can be canceled at any time by the subscriber.

Session with Your Dog
Small Group Sessions
Interested folks may provide contact info at the end of Canine Conversations sessions. They will be contacted by email as availability allows.
Scope: Leash skills and socialization
Length: 50-60 minutes
Location and details will be emailed to those registered. If we fill, priority will be given to recent shelter dog adopters.

our Community

This Wellness Program helps residents of Alamogordo and Otero County, NM
By providing free, ongoing education in partnership with the City of Alamogordo Animal Shelter, as sponsored by the Carroll Petrie Foundation.
Goals
1. Provide effective and ethical instruction on the care and training of dogs throughout their life stages.
2. Facilitate successful adoptions by:

helping shelter dogs integrate into homes
-
teaching adopters how to address canine needs in mutually beneficial ways
3. Reduce returns and surrenders of dogs by:
-
teaching in-home routines for building healthy relationships and preventing/treating common problematic behaviors

teaching a practical skillset for dog training and socialization
-
supporting community members in implementing of skills and knowledge gained


About Your Instructor
Nathaniel Lukas Redekopp, PhD, NCC, LPCC, CPDT-KA
Nathaniel (bilingual English/Spanish) has owned a professional dog training business since 2015 and apprenticed for two years prior. He is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) credentialed by the Certification Council of Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT).
Nathaniel is also a LPCC (Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor) specializing in Animal-Assisted Therapy with canines. He is a PhD graduate of the University of New Mexico in Spanish, has a professional background in curriculum design and instruction, and is an experienced public speaker and educator.
